Huma Qureshi helps set up temporary hospital for COVID patients in New Delhi

The COVID-19 pandemic, and the horrors it has wrought, has brought India to the attention of the world at large. Even as Good Samaritans continue to pitch in, members of the film fraternity have begun to use their sizeable influence to bring succour to the afflicted and their loved ones. Actress Huma Qureshi and Hollywood director Zack Snyder have teamed up with the organization Save The Children India to help set up a 100-bed COVID facility in New Delhi. 

The actress took to Instagram on Monday to share information about her endeavour. She wrote, "I’ve joined hands with @savethechildren_india to help Delhi fight the pandemic. They need our help now more than ever. We are working to build a temporary hospital facility in Delhi, that will have 100 beds along with an oxygen plant. The project also aims to provide medical kits to patients for treatment at home, that will include consultation with a doctor & psychosocial therapist to ensure that the patient make a full recovery. Take the pledge with me, help breath life back into Delhi (sic)."

Snyder, who will direct the actress in Army Of The Dead, drew attention to the cause on social media, posting, "I've joined hands with Save The Children to help Delhi fight the pandemic. They are working to build a temporary hospital facility in Delhi with 100 beds along with an oxygen plant."

So far, international celebrities such as Will Smith, Nick Jonas, Katy Perry, Reese Witherspoon and Kunal Nayyar have come together to draw attention to India's plight.

Back home, several film industry personnel have used their social media platforms as a means to amplify information and calls for help. Several production houses such as Yash Raj Films and Excel Entertainment have also pitched in with medical support. Yash Raj Films has pledged to vaccinate close to 30,000 members of the industry at its own expense while prominent Bengali artistes have come together to help set up a COVID-19 relief centre. 

Army Of The Dead will be released internationally on Netflix on 21 May. Qureshi will also be seen in the series Maharani, which will be streamed on SonyLIV's OTT platform from 28 May. The actress is also part of the Akshay Kumar-starrer Bell Bottom, which has been delayed due to the pandemic.
