The Last Apple teaser: Aneek Chaudhuri’s short film explores theme of violence against women

Aneek Chaudhuri’s short film The Last Apple looks at the atrocities committed against women in Syria, which is conveyed through the suffering of a young woman portrayed by Usha Banerjee.

The teaser begins with the monochromatic shot of a woman struggling to pull herself together, clutching a piece of jewellery. With mournful music in the background, the short indicates the character's ordeal through broken objects strewn about and her emotions. It ends with the shot of the woman with a haunted look on her face.

The film focuses on the situation of the woman, her unimaginable suffering and pain. The images are deeply unsettling and convey the savagery of sexual assault.

The 24-minute film has been travelling to several film festivals across the world.
