The makers of the period film Bellbottom (2021), Pooja Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment, have, in a statement, quashed rumours of its digital release.
The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi, was originally due to arrive in theatres on 28 May.
The spy thriller, directed by Ranjit M Tewari, was filmed in the United Kingdom last year.
'Pooja Entertainment would like to quash all speculation in some sections of the media regarding the release of our upcoming film Bellbottom,' the statement read.
'Any announcement regarding the impending release of the film will be made by Pooja Entertainment at the opportune time. Nobody other than Pooja Entertainment has the mandate to make any statements with regard to any development with the film,' it further said.
The statement ended with a request to the media to refrain from publishing information that is not officially communicated by the makers.
Theatres are shut across most parts of the country, with a lockdown in effect in many states. India saw over 400,000 new COVID-19 cases and over 3,500 deaths yesterday, taking the country's total official count close to 20 million cases and over 210,000 deaths.
