The makers of the sports biopic Saina, which stars Parineeti Chopra, have released the trailer of the film on International Women's Day.

The trailer begins with a scene from Saina's childhood in which her mother (Meghna Malik) enrols her in a badminton coaching institute. The trailer shows the journey of a young girl from Haryana who aspires to become the first female badminton player with the number one ranking, and all the ups and downs she has to face in order to achieve her dream.

Saina is eventually selected for the national team and her hardship is highlighted along with glimpses of her intense training regime and setbacks. From the trailer, it's quite clear that the film has all the typical ingredients one generally associates with the sports biopic. It's also high on emotional quotient.

Also, this is one of those trailers that are assembled to ultimately be a mini-movie. Although it's not necessarily a bad thing, especially for a biopic where most of the information is already out in the public domain, one can't deny that it diminishes the eventual theatrical experience because the viewer has already basically seen everything the film has to offer.

Also, there are some apprehensions about Chopra's performance. She doesn't look too convincing, but it's still too early to say anything about her performance.

Saina, which will be released in theatres on 26 March, has been written and directed by Amole Gupte and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Sujay Jayraj and Rajesh Shah.
