Films Division marks International Women’s Day with virtual film festival 


Organised in collaboration with Children’s Film Society, India, the event will include webinars and screenings.

The Films Division of India, in collaboration with Children’s Film Society, India (CFSI), will be celebrating International Women's Day from 8-10 March with a film festival. The three-day event is being organized around the theme 'Choose to Challenge' and will include webinars, along with the screening of documentary and feature films. 

The films that will be screened include Wings of Desire (2018) by Pratibha Kaur Pasricha, Drama Queens (2019) by Sohini Dasgupta, I Rise (2019) by Borun Thokchom, The Day I Became a Woman (2019) by Moupia Mukherjee, Phulbasan Bai (Part - I) (2014) by Navindra Behl and Begamon Ka Bhopal (2017) by Rachita Gorowala, among others. These films have been produced by the Films Division and CFSI.

The inaugural ceremony on 8 March led by Smita Vats Sharma, director general, Films Division at Films Division Complex, Mumbai will be followed by a webinar on ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution in India: A Brief Overview’ with Asha Gopalan Nair, advocate and senior mediator, Supreme Court of India, as the key speaker. Other webinars during the course of the festival include topics like ‘Health Challenges faced by Women’, ‘Women in Filmmaking: Challenges in Creating Space’, ‘Mental Health: Issues and Stigmas’ and one on ‘Financial Planning’.

The festival programme also includes an inspirational talk on the final day with two women achievers who have risen above their visual impediments. Dr Kalpana Kharade, a leading educationalist and Sadaf Khan, an HR professional from Mumbai, will be sharing their success stories. 

The films will be streamed on the Films Division of India's website and YouTube from 8 to 10 March.
