Fatima Sana Shaikh is set to star in the Hindi version of the critically acclaimed Tamil movie Aruvi (2017). The yet-untitled project will go on the floors soon. The film will be helmed by E Nivas, who directed the National Film Award-winning Shool (1999) and recently directed the SonyLiv web-series Your Honor.

The Hindi remake will be backed by Applause Entertainment in collaboration with Faith Films.

The India Today magazine quoted Shaikh as saying that she was excited to embark on this journey. She also revealed that she was going to dive deep into the character of Aruvi.

Meanwhile, E Niwas. who is a huge fan of the original film, thinks that Shaikh is the perfect choice for the remake. “Aruvi is not just a story of a hero. It’s a triumph over the labyrinths of life. It’s totally euphoric and a privilege to explore one of the most beautiful cinematic characters I have come across. Fatima Sana Shaikh is an absolutely befitting choice, and I am super excited to collaborate with Applause Entertainment and Faith Films,” the filmmaker told India Today.

Aruvi, which was directed by Arun Prabu and starred Aditi Balan, was a commercial as well as a critical success. The film was lauded for its original story and commentary on consumerism and misogyny, among other things.

Shaikh was last seen in the family comedy Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari (2020) where she was cast opposite Diljit Dosanjh.
