Actor Jisshu Sengupta has been roped in for a crucial role in Rahul Sankrityan’s upcoming period film Shyam Singha Roy.

The Telugu film will star Nani, Sai Pallavi, Krithi Shetty and Madonna Sebastian.

The makers of the film recently announced Sengupta's involvement on Twitter, stating, “Welcoming the most talented and dedicated actor Jisshu Sengupta on Board for Shyam Singha Roy. Royally Welcome Sir (sic)."

Sengupta's rugged look in the photo has generated much buzz.

According to a report in the India Today magazine, the film will see Nani play a Bengali character. The actor shared the first look poster of the film on 24 February, which is his birthday.

While Nani is seen in period attire in the poster, a woman is depicted hugging him from behind. The Royal Press signboard in the background, and stacks of paper, suggests that the film deals with the evolution of the printing press in Kolkata during the colonial era.

Shyam Singha Roy will be Sengupta’s sixth Telugu film following NTR: Kathanayakudu (2019), Aswathama (2020), Bheeshma (2020), Thalaivi (2021), and Acharya (2021). The actor will also be seen in the lead role in Aritra Mukherjee’s film Baba Baby O and will play an interesting character in Mahesh Manjrekar’s Antim: The Final Truth.
