In August 2020, the NCB filed two cases against Chakraborty based on notifications received from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The new chargesheet, which contains the statements of 200 witnesses and includes 50,000 digital pages, was submitted at the Special NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) Court on Friday.
The NCB had arrested Chakraborty, as well as her brother, Showik, in September 2020, but the Bombay high court granted the actress bail in October while her brother was released in December.
Incidentally, the Union government had stated, in reply to a question in Parliament, that there were no ''substantiated reports'' proving a nexus between members of the film industry and drug traffickers.
In addition to the NCB, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED are investigating the death by suicide of Rajput.
