Move over Sooryavanshi, it’s time for the women of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to have their stories told. A new Hindi film will showcase a dangerous mission where the ATS's all-women team in Gujarat nabbed a dreaded criminal in 2019.
According to the makers, the untitled film will depict the operation led by Santok Odedra, Nitmika Gohil, Aruna Gameti and Shakuntla Mal — four cops from different backgrounds, who put everything at risk to catch the evildoer.
Himanshu Shukla was the DIG of Gujarat’s ATS. He authorized the mission and selected the women for the job. He said, “The success of the women team in apprehending the dreaded criminal is a great reminder to everyone that discrimination against women in policing is nothing but unfounded male chauvinism. This was a very dangerous operation and I’m proud of the women team who succeeded. I’m happy that this brave effort will now be depicted on the big screen.”
Police Inspector Jignesh Agravat, whose expertise lies in ground intelligence, helped the officers in this historic operation.
Director Ashish R Mohan, who last directed the comedy Wecome 2 Karachi (2015), stated, “It is indeed a matter of pride for me to bring this inspiring true story of these brave women to the big screen.”
Casting is now underway for the four female protagonists and the film is expected to go on the floors by mid-2021.
The action-thriller has been written by Sanjay Chouhan, who co-wrote the screenplay of Paan Singh Tomar (2012). The film is being produced by Wakaoo Films, which includes producers Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde and Rajesh Bahl.
