Actress Gargee Roy Chowdhury and director-actor Suman Mukhopadhyay will be seen together in Goutam Ghose’s upcoming short film Somoyer Smritimala. The film revolves around a married couple that is experiencing relationship issues amid the pandemic-induced lockdown. The actress began shooting for the film a few days ago.

Roy Chowdhury plays Sumita, a school teacher, in Somoyer Smritimala. “The film shows how Sumita is coping with a lot of things in the new normal, one of which being her online classes. The film also shows how the dynamics of the relationship changed amid the pandemic,” the actress told the Calcutta Times newspaper.

According to Roy Chowdhury, the director asked her to sing Rabindranath Tagore's songs 'E Porobashe Robe Ke' and 'Bipulo Taranga Re'. “Initially, only one song was part of the script but later he added another, as the script demanded it,” she said.

“Since I have no formal training in singing, I was jittery doing the playback. I have learnt music in school like other kids but never pursued singing despite my teachers telling me to. So, I thought of giving it a try when Goutam da insisted and he said I have sung quite well,” said the actress.
