The upcoming film Ati Uttam will see the legendary actor Uttam Kumar returning to the silver screen via visual effects.

The Srijit Mukherji film is about an ardent fan of the matinee idol, who, as the king of romance, gives his admirer the best romantic advice.

According to the Anandabazar Patrika newspaper, the director, who recently bagged two National awards for his film Gumnaami, has been working on the script for the past three years. However, instead of casting a contemporary actor as Kumar, who died in 1980, he decided to bring him to life with the help of the latest technology.

Ati Uttam will feature a host of newcomers, including Anindya Sengupta, Jina Tarafdar and Roshni Bhattacharya. Kumar’s grandson Gourab Chatterjee, who has appeared in various television series, including Karunamoyee Rani Rashmoni, will also feature in the film, along with Laboni Sarkar and Subhasish Mukherjee.

Mukherji’s career commenced with Autograph (2010), which was a love letter to Satyajit Ray and Uttam Kumar. According to the director, Ati Uttam will be another tribute to the Mahanayak, from an ardent admirer’s perspective.
