The official poster for Dhrubo Banerjee’s upcoming period drama Golondaaj (2021) has finally revealed leading man Dev Adhikari’s look as Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the 'father of Indian football', in action.
While much expectation was generated with Adhikari’s dhoti-clad period look in an earlier still, the poster shows the actor in aggressive spirit, breaking chains with a football at his feet.
A few days ago, SVF Entertainment Pvt Ltd had revealed the release dates of five of its upcoming movies, including Golondaaj.
On 28 March, director Banerjee unveiled the poster on Twitter, stating that it took two years to make the film after overcoming numerous challenges and obstacles.
A film made with blood sweat & passion. Almost 2 years in making overcoming every possible challenge and obstacle. It’s GOLONDAAJ!!! Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari started playing football while studying in Hare School, among Calcutta's oldest schools, in 1877. Eventually, he went on to establish The Boys' Club, which is considered the first Indian initiative at football organization. In the 1880s, he formed more sport clubs, including the Wellington Club. He later served as captain of the storied Mohun Bagan football club as well.
While the poster gives a hint to the storyline with the image of Adhikari breaking chains with his aggressive play, the caption shared by the actor on Twitter, 'Hope this one rattles your emotions, the way he had rattled the British's’, suggests that the narrative will focus on Sarbadhikari’s pioneering achievements on the field of football as well as his struggle against the British in doing so.
Honoured to have played The Father of Indian Football - Sri Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari on celluloid.
