Director Anup Jagdale's upcoming project Ravrambha is the latest manifestation of Marathi cinema's fascination with period films.

The poster of the film features a silhouette of the Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj looming behind a man and a woman who are shielding themselves from a shower of flaming arrows.

Set in the 17th century, the film is a historical romance set in the Maratha empire. While it is not yet clear which historical event the film is based on, according to a press release, the film revolves around the story of 'Ravrambha: The great warrior of 1674'.

The film has been written by Prashant Gangavane. Jagdale has previously directed Bebhan (2021), Bhirkit (2021) and Zhalla Bobhata (2017)

While the cast of the film, like its story, has been kept under wraps, the project is set to go on the floors this week. It is among the rare productions to be set in Maharashtra's Satara district.

The film is being produced by Shashikant Bhausaheb Pawar.
