Ram Setu is being directed by Abhishek Sharma, who last helmed Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari (2020). The film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha.
Akshay had announced the film last year on the occasion of Diwali. A month later, in December, the actor got permission to shoot the film in Ayodhya after he met Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath when the latter was in Mumbai at the time.
Ram Setu marks Amazon Prime India's first foray into film production. The film is also being backed by Abundantia Entertainment and Lyca Productions.
For the uninitiated, the Ram Setu is a bridge mentioned in the Indian epic Ramayana. The film will attempt to explore the question of whether the bridge is real or a myth.
