It's been a while since Pooja Bhatt faced the camera. The actress-producer was last seen in Everybody Says I'm Fine! (2010). Coincidentally, Bhatt is acting opposite Rahul Bose — the English-language film's director — again in the Netflix web-series Bombay Begums.

The actress plays a confident and ruthless businesswoman, Rani, who heads an empire and comes up against unexpected challenges. Speaking about her character and the upcoming show created by Alankrita Shrivastava, Bhatt said, “They sent me a synopsis. I loved the world. I thought that these four characters, these four women, were quite fascinating. I was touched that they thought of me but I had to, unfortunately, say no. And for whatever it's worth, they decided to push their schedule. Then, they came back to me a few months later.”

“I just decided to take the leap,” the actress, who also produced Sadak 2 (2020), said. “I thought that when life is banging on your door, the least you can do is throw it open and let life in. So I just said yes. And I think it's the best decision I've made.”

Bombay Begums also features Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand.

The web-series is due to be released on International Women’s Day, 8 March.
