Amazon Prime Video has issued an official apology to its viewers for the controversy caused by its series Tandav. This is the third apology from the streaming platform, following two earlier apologies from the makers and director Ali Abbas Zafar.
The statement came days after the Allahabad high court refused to grant bail to Amazon Prime India's content chief Aparna Purohit.
In a statement, the OTT platform stated, "Amazon Prime Video again deeply regrets that viewers considered certain scenes to be objectionable in the recently launched fictional series Tandav. This was never our intention, and the scenes that were objected to were removed or edited when they were brought to our attention. We respect our viewers’ diverse beliefs and apologize unconditionally to anyone who felt hurt by these scenes."

The statement further said, "Our teams follow company content evaluation processes, which we acknowledge need to be constantly updated to better serve our audiences. We will continue to develop entertaining content with partners while complying with the laws of India and respecting the diversity of culture and beliefs of our audiences."
Earlier, the makers of Tandav had been called in by the Union ministry of information and broadcasting and accepted its suggestions to change and remove the objectionable scenes.
The controversy over Tandav has led to the Union government stepping in with several stringent steps, including an independent supervising body of retired judges under the ministry of information & broadcasting, which will now monitor content across OTT platforms.
A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan is currently hearing a plea by Purohit against the Allahabad high court order rejecting her anticipatory bail in the case.
