AVM’s first web-series Tamil Stalkers to deal with film piracy

AVM Productions, the 75-year-old banner that has delivered many Tamil and Hindi blockbusters, has come up with its first web-series.

The series, titled Tamil Stalkers, will be streamed on the SonyLIV platform and marks AVM's maiden foray into the digital space.

Directed by Arivazhagan Venkatachalam, Tamil Stalkers will deal with film piracy which has been affecting the Tamil film industry for a long time.

Although the show is in Tamil, it will also be made available in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

A statement from the producers said, 'Illegal and unauthorized duplication of content is one of the gravest concerns plaguing content creators world over. In India, the Tamil film industry has been fighting a never-ending battle with this issue owing to various online piracy websites. This show deep dives into the dark side of this piracy world and unravels the industry’s constant battle to identify the group that is involved in releasing pirated content.'

Aruna Guhan and Aparna Guhan Shyam, partners at AVM Productions, said in a joint statement, “Tamil Stalkers dwells on the unheard aspects of the Tamil industry’s relentless battle against piracy and ways to counter the menace. We are extremely passionate to bring it forth to the audience in partnership with SonyLIV, that has been headlining the category with relevant and intriguing narratives. Along with a visionary director like Arivazhagan, we are sure to hit the right chords with Tamil Stalkers.”

The show will also mark SonyLIV's entry into the Tamil web-series space. Danish Khan, business head of SonyLIV, StudioNEXT and Sony Entertainment Television, all part of the Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “We at SonyLIV are delighted to start our Tamil language LIV Original slate with Tamil Stalkers, a show that will be produced by one of the pioneer creative powerhouse AVM.
