After writing a long list of films for David Dhawan, Rumy Jafry made his own debut as director with God Tussi Great Ho (2008), which starred Amitabh Bachchan. He has reunited with the veteran with his latest directorial venture Chehre (2021).

Speaking of his association with Bachchan, Jafry said, “I think there won’t be a single person in our industry who wouldn’t want to work with Amitabh Bachchan. I feel fortunate that I got an opportunity to work with him as a writer in my early days, the first film I did as a director was with Amitji back in 2008, and now with Chehre I am happy that I got an opportunity to direct him again.

“The best part about working with Amitji," he continued, "is that he makes the people around him comfortable. One won’t feel he or she is around the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. He makes a smooth bond and connection with his co-stars while shooting all the scenes, so the chemistry goes smooth and looks effortless.”

Chehre sees Bachchan play a lawyer who, along with his friends, plays a game of mock court in which Emraan Hashmi’s character plays an accused. As the game develops, the lines between fiction and reality start getting blurred.

Explaining why he cast Hashmi with Bachchan, Jafry said, “This is the first time [I am] working with Emraan. Initially while thinking about this character, we could only visualize Emraan. He was perfect for this role. He is a dedicated and disciplined actor always prepared with his scenes and lines; a very focused actor on set.”

Produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, Chehre is scheduled to be released in theatres on 9 April.
