The trailer of Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s upcoming film Anusandhan, whose plot appears to be similar to that of Rumy Jafry's Chehre, has suspense written all over it.
The promo begins with Indra Chakraborty (Saswata Chatterjee) convincing his wife about the urgency of a business trip to Birmingham during Durga Puja. Catastrophe is then indicated in a dramatic sequence where a chandelier shatters in front of an idol of Durga.
Chakraborty, who is mildly injured in a car accident on a rainy night in Birmingham, takes refuge in a palatial old mansion, which is inhabited by a family of lawyers.
The protagonist receives an eerie welcome from one of the residents of the mansion (Joydeep Mukherjee), who tells him that the family never receive guests and even if they do, strangers are not treated as guests anymore. His speech is accompanied by visuals of weird curios in the room.
The family comprises a judge (Churni Ganguly), a public prosecutor (Riddhi Sen), a defence counsel (Priyanka Mondal) and a jailor (Mukherjee), who proposes that they all play a game.
Chakraborty initially questions the sanity of the family but eventually accepts his role as a victim in a mock trial. However, the character finds himself being seen as the perpetrator of the 'crime' and begins to feel threatened after making a confession.
The trailer also promises engaging performances by Chatterjee and Sen, who seem to have attempted to make a dialogue-heavy film engaging and entertaining.
