Kaajro (Bitter Tree) won the award for Best Konkani Film at the 67th National Film Awards announced in New Delhi on Monday by the Directorate of Film Festivals of the Union information and broadcasting ministry.
Kaajro review: This single-take film takes a hard swipe at casteism
Directed by Nitin Bhaskar, the film takes an incisive look at the subject of untouchability through an incident in the life of Tilgya (Vitthal Kale), a member of the scheduled castes.
The film was shot in a single take.
Speaking about the win, Bhaskar said, “I'm very delighted and proud of Kaajro's achievement at the 67th National Film Awards 2021. This has been a dream come true for me and my team after a long wait. It's really a great motivator for all of us.”
Kaajro was premiered at the 21st MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2019. Thereafter it has been screened at several film festivals, including the Bengaluru International Film Festival 2020.
This is the second National award for the film's producer Rajesh R Pednekar. He had won the National award previously for another Konkani film, K Sera Sera (2016).
