Actor Priyank Tiwari has been roped in for Lionsgate Play's upcoming series U-Special. The series, which stars Parambrata Chatterjee and Sumeet Vyas, is the newly launched OTT platform's second original Indian project.
A college drama, it will be helmed by Akarsh Khurana and Adhaar Khurana.
The story is set in the cheerful, quirky and vibrant world of a large university campus filled with young people from all over the country.
Tiwari has acted in the SonyLiv web-series Love J Action. He was also part of the Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra film Jabariya Jodi (2019).
Speaking about U-Special, Tiwari said, "I just want to say that these people are super chill and comfortable to work with. I'm playing a Bihari student. Working with Adhaar sir and Akarsh sir is a whole new experience for me because I've watched their plays many times, and always wanted to work with them and this opportunity is nothing less than a joyful experience for me."
Lionsgate Play was launched in 2020 and announced its first original series, helmed by Kunal Kohli, featuring Lara Dutta Bhupathi and Prateik Babbar in February 2021. Titled Casual, the series is an adaptation of Jason Reitman's drama series of the same name.
While U-Special yet to go on the floors, Tiwari can be seen in Love J Action. Speaking of the SonyLiv project, he said, "The character I am playing on the show is named Minty Singh Agrasen who hails from Lucknow. When I first heard the narration, I felt that I had seen such boys because I am from Kanpur, which is hardly 80 km away from Lucknow so there are so many similarities in the culture or the ambience. So to me, it wasn't that tough to portray Minty Singh Agrasen."
