Written and directed by Ajitpal Singh, the Gujarati language short will be shown as the ‘Film of the Day’ on the streaming platform.

The award-winning Gujarati short film Rammat Gammat will have its digital premiere on MUBI on 20 March as its ‘Film of the Day’.

The short film, written and directed by Ajitpal Singh, had its world premiere at the 64th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and won the Special Mention Award. It has been screened at nearly 50 international and Indian film festivals in over 25 countries and won six awards and honours.

The teaser opens with shouts of "thief, thief" and we don't know who it is until we see a young boy, taking shelter from the rain. Later, two boys are seen running across a hillside. According to the film’s synopsis, the short is “a moving tale of two young boys from different backgrounds who bond over football, until a new pair of shoes strains their friendship”.

The short film stars two newcomers from Gujarat, Shivam Math and Yash Patel, and features most first-time artistes except actress Swati Das who has a pivotal role. Produced by Drishyam Films and Tejash Shah (Accord Equips) and Mauli Singh, Rammat Gammat has been shot in the Wilson Hill ghats of Gujarat.

Speaking about the film’s release on MUBI, Drishyam Films’ Manish Mundra said, “After touring over 50 international film festivals in nearly 30 countries, I am extremely thrilled that Rammat Gammat is finally coming on a prestigious platform like Mubi that showcases quality independent cinema from all over the world. We hope this will be the beginning of a long, fruitful association with them.”

Singh, the director, said, “I hope this film can touch and unite many hearts and help viewers see beyond the limitations of us vs them like children can. The short film has played an important part in my journey as a filmmaker and got me an opportunity to make my debut feature, Fire In The Mountains. I am grateful to Drishyam Films, Manish Mundra for funding the short film and giving me the freedom to make it the way I wanted to, and Accord Equips for giving us the equipment support.”
