The Kartik Aaryan film Dhamaka (2021), which is being directed by Ram Madhvani, is headed to Netflix this summer. The first teaser of the film shows the actor as a stressed-out TV journalist who has no choice but to cover an ongoing emergency — a bomb blast in the city.
Aaryan, who seems to be on the verge of a breakdown, is soothed by his boss, played by Amruta Subhash. His character, Arjun Pathak from Bharosa 24/7, repeats to himself that he will only tell the truth and nothing but the truth. But his last retort to Subhash indicates that there is more to the story than we know. According to a press release, Pathak has to “make a choice between his future career or the humanist in him”.
Dhamaka also features Vikas Kumar and Vishwajeet Pradhan, and Mrunal Thakur in a special appearance.
Producer-director Madhvani was thrilled that the film is premiering on Netflix. “We know that this is only our first step to a continuing relationship with a platform we highly respect and that will reach national and international audiences,” he said in a statement. “I have been wanting to collaborate with Kartik Aaryan for some years now. And I’m thrilled he wanted to do Dhamaka.
“Every day Kartik gave his all to the 360-degree system with which I work. His full involvement, his passion, his precise calibration as an actor is something that I hugely respect. It would be great to collaborate with him again because he made my work better,” he said.
The filmmaker also added that he was privileged to work with Vikas Kumar and Viswajeet Pradhan again and praised award-winning actress Amruta Subhash for her acting prowess. Madhavi also thanked Mrunal Thakur for acting in the film as a special appearance. “She is the films moral centre and she brings honesty and believability to her performance that I have had the privilege of being at the receiving end of as a director. Mrunal is a very rare talent,” he said.
Aaryan, who makes his Netflix debut with Dhamaka, said, “Dhamaka has been a very exciting and enriching experience for me as an actor. Working with a maverick like Ram Madhvani has allowed me to explore and showcase a new facet of my personality. I am thrilled that the film will reach audiences and my fans all around the world on Netflix.”
The thriller is being produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ram Madhvani Films in association with Lotte Cultureworks, Globalgate Entertainment and Lionsgate.
