In a recent Facebook post, the director spoke of how observing a large family gradually fall to pieces over the years gave him the idea for this film.
A story of a large-scale family reunion, Abbar Kanchenjungha features Kaushik Sen, Saswata Chatterjee, Arpita Chatterjee, Tanushree Chakraborty, Rahul Banerjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty and Bidipta Chakraborty in pivotal roles. Actress Subhasree Ganguly’s sister Debasree will be making her debut in the film, along with television actresses Ranieeta Dash and Sohini Guha.
The big reunion of the Deb family takes place in their ancestral home Abhilash in Darjeeling at Christmas. As the four sons and one daughter of the late advocate Nishith Deb arrive with their respective families, several conflicts of interests and emotions arise.
The arguments lead to a decision to sell off the house, until a significant member of the family saves it from falling apart and also saves the house. All the family members find their roots in the existence of the house as they resolve their financial issues and interpersonal problems.
The political orientation of some of the characters will also guide the film's narrative.
Actor Anindya Chatterjee, actress Richa Sharma and vocalist Rupankar Bagchi will be playing important roles in the film. The script of Abbar Kanchenjungha has been written by Padmanabha Dasgupta, who will also find screen space in the film.
The film is being shot by Gopi Bhagat. Ashu Chakraborty is composing its music with Durba Sen writing the songs.
