Hardik Mehta’s horror comedy Roohi has fared decently at the box office in its first week. Starring Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma, the film ended the week with a total of Rs15.50 crore nett, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com. According to trade sources, the film was made on a budget of about Rs30 crore.
After collecting Rs11.35 crore nett in its extended first weekend — the film was released on Thursday 11 March — Roohi met the Monday challenge successfully when it made Rs1.25 crore nett. From that day on, it has seen a gradual dip in numbers but that is normal.
Though Roohi's total collection isn’t impressive, it is not bad either considering that the pandemic is very much present and almost the entire country has allowed only 50% occupancy in theatres. The film has performed way better than all the other films that were released in the post-COVID-19 era ever since theatres began reopening in October last year.
Sanjay Gupta’s Mumbai Saga, which was released today, carries some expectation at the ticket window because of its mass appeal. It is the first film to be released with over 2,000 screens following the pandemic.
Dibakar Banerjee’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is the other release this week. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, the film has been released on only around 375 screens.
