Chehre trailer: Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi butt heads in dangerous game

Directed by Rumy Jafry, the film is set to be released in theatres on 9 April.

When a group of individuals gather inside a palatial mansion to play out a mock trial, while a winter snowstorm rages outside, you know things are going to get bloody. The trailer of Rumy Jafry's Chehre calls to mind Agatha Christie novels with a dash of Tarantino.

Gripping, sharp and filled with some weathered faces, the trailer makes for a good introduction to the film. Chehre has been written by Ranjit Kapoor and Jafry and is based on the former's play, Wrong Turn, which was inspired by a German play, Breakdown.

The trailer begins with the sight of a car swerving to avoid a falling tree in a snowstorm. The only refuge for the driver, played by Emraan Hashmi, is a palatial mansion nearby. In the house, a group of retired criminal lawyers have assembled and the gathering seems benign at first. Except, when they introduce the young advertising honcho to their game — a mock trial. Soon, Hashmi's character realises there is more than meets the eye. Bachchan sums it up when he says, "This decadence of human values has to stop (sic)." The decadence refers to Hashmi's underhanded ways to rise through the corporate ladder.

Jafry's trailer heightens the tension with some sparkling and sharp wit and repartee between the guests. With Bachchan, Raghuvir Yadav, Dhritiman Chatterjee, and Annu Kapoor playing the wizened detectives, there is no dearth of acting talent. The trailer is also cut well, with dialogues interspersed with mysterious scenes of a woman tied down as well as shots of her flirting with Hashmi's character. Throw in a silent Siddhanth Kapoor, who seems to be acting as the help, and you have a very interesting plot.

Another intriguing addition is the split-second appearance of Rhea Chakraborty in the trailer. While it appears that Hashmi's character turns to her for help, the trailer does not reveal if she is a friend or foe.

Chehre has been produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Saraswati Entertainment Private Limited and will be released in theatres on 9 April.
