The legal counsel for Ashish Kaul, author of Didda: The Warrior Queen of Kashmir, sent a notice to the Khar police on Wednesday regarding the FIR (first information report) registered against actress Kangana Ranaut concerning copyright violation. The notice demanded an update on the progress of the case.
Kaul had filed an FIR against the actress, her sister Rangoli Chandel and producer Kamal Kumar Jain on 12 March. Ranaut had announced a biopic on the Kashmiri queen Didda, in January 2021.
Kaul had claimed, before the metropolitan magistrate, that he had acquired the rights to the story on the life of Didda, who ruled Kashmir from 980 CE to 1003 CE Following this application, Kaul, through his legal counsel, filed an FIR against the actress and the production team. Kaul's complaint also stated that he had sent Ranaut an email about the storyline of his book and that the actress had used a plot point when announcing the film.
The news agency PTI quoted advocates Ravish Zamindar and Yogita Joshi, who represent Kaul, saying that the notice was sent to the Khar police since their client was ''unclear on the progress despite visiting the police station almost daily till 15 March."
