‘Pagglait’ title song: Sanya Malhotra's on-screen husband's death fails to crush her spirit

Arijit Singh's composition and Raftaar’s lyrics are the highlights of the uplifting tune.

The teaser and trailer of Umesh Bist's Pagglait showed glimpses of Sanya Malhotra’s character, Sandhya,  being entirely unmoved by the death of her husband of five months. The title song of the film, which is just out, throws more light on her state of mind.

It would be an understatement to say that Sandhya isn’t your typical grieving widow. In the video of the title track, a fun and energetic composition by Arijit Singh, the character is seen having a gala time with her friends. It will be interesting to see how these incidents play out in the movie.

Raftaar’s lyrics easily convey the passion felt by Sandhya. He and his fellow singers Amrita and Arijit Singh bring the right amount of zing to the uplifting track.

The most positive aspect about the earlier promotional material and the song ‘Pagglait’ is that Malhotra doesn’t make her indifference appear offensive and, in fact, imbues it with a certain degree of innocence. An example of this is the moment in the song when she starts yawning while reading condolence messages.

Pagglait will be streamed on Netflix from 26 March.

Check out the song and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
