Amazon Prime India is set to co-produce its first Hindi film in the Akshay Kumar-led Ram Setu.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film will be co-produced by Cape of Good Films, Abundantia Entertainment, Lyca Productions and Amazon Prime India.

The announcement was made by the OTT platform today.

Ram Setu features Akshay Kumar in the role of an archaeologist, alongside Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrrat Bharucchha. The film is expected to have its mahurat (inaugural shot) in Ayodhya on 18 March.

The team shared a picture of its latest script session, before Akshay Kumar's short vacation.

The announcement of Amazon Prime India joining the production team comes a day after Lyca Productions announced its decision to back the film.

Amazon Prime Video recently ran into trouble with the government over its web-series, Tandav (2021). The Union government then introduced new rules to ensure monitoring and self-regulation of content on OTT platforms. There are several cases pending against the makers of the web-series and the streaming platform.

Shooting for Ram Setu, directed by Abhishek Sharma, is expected to begin this month. The film is slated for release in theatres before being moving on to Amazon Prime Video.
