Sajin Baabu’s award-winning Malayalam language feature film Biriyaani will finally hit theatres across Kerala on 26 March.

The film has been screened at several festivals across the world and won several awards, including the Kerala State award for Best Actress for Kani Kusruti for her portrayal of a young Muslim woman who fights patriarchal and religious norms.

Speaking about the film's theatrical release, Sajin Baabu said, “Since last year, Biriyaani participated in more than 50 festivals and won around 20 different awards. Now it's time for the theatrical release. I was overwhelmed by how people had received the movie at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) that happened recently. Every show was houseful within a few minutes after booking started. I hope Biriyaani receives the same kind of support and love in theatres too."

Increasingly, Malayalam films from festivals have been getting released in theatres in Kerala. Lijo Jose Pellissery's Oscar entry Jallikattu (2020) and Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's Chola (2019) are a few prominent examples.

Theatres have been open in Kerala for a few months now and the IFFK was also organized on the ground in four cities of the state.
