Toofaan teaser: Farhan Akhtar is determined to be a boxing great

Yet another sports underdog story is on the way. In Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofaan (2021), Farhan Akhtar goes the distance as an amateur boxer.

The first visual of the teaser shows Akhtar going down on the mat, but that is obviously not the whole story. The two-minute teaser briefly takes us through his journey as a gangster, Ajju Bhai, who turns clean to become a boxer, Aziz Ali.

There are several scenes of Akhtar undergoing intense physical workouts, and of course, that mandatory shot of Muhammed Ali, widely known as the greatest of all time. Paresh Rawal plays Akhtar’s coach, while Mrunal Thakur is his girlfriend and confidante. The title refers to Aziz Ali’s nickname in the ring: Toofaan.

Written by Anjum Rajabali, the film also stars Supriya Pathak Kapur, Hussain Dalal, Dr Mohan Agashe, Darshan Kumaar and Vijay Raaz. Toofan is due to be premiered on Amazon Prime on 21 May.
