National Award-winning Tamil filmmaker SP Jananathan was rushed to the ICU ward of Apollo Hospital in Chennai after he was found unconscious in his home on Thursday. The filmmaker’s brother, Azhagan Thamilmani, told reporters that doctors have detected blood clots in his brain.
On Thursday, Jananathan was busy with the editing work of his upcoming Tamil film, Laabam. He left home for lunch but failed to return. When his assistants went home to check on him several hours later, the front door was ajar, and he was found lying unconscious on the floor.
A source close to the filmmaker said that he’s on ventilator support. The source added that the family was waiting to hear from the hospital's senior neurologist.
Jananathan made his debut as a filmmaker with acclaimed Tamil film Iyarkai (2003).
He’s renowned for making socially relevant films. His other films include E (2006) and Peraanmai (2009). Laabam, a political drama, stars Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan.
This will be his second film with Vijay, with whom he worked in Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai (2015).
