Farhan Akhtar's Toofaan to be premiered on Amazon Prime on 21 May

The Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra-helmed sports drama will star the actor as a national-level boxer.

After the Central government allowed cinemas to screen films at 100% occupancy, several filmmakers have opted to release their films in theatres. However, it seems OTT platforms have still not lost their charm.

The makers of Farhan Akhtar's Toofaan, Excel Production, have opted to release their film directly on Amazon Prime Video. The sports drama will be streamed on the platform on 21 May.

Excel Production released the poster of the film on Twitter on Wednesday. "Toofaan Uthega! Catch the teaser on 12th March open circle arrows this tweet to set a reminder for the teaser premiere. World premiere, May 21 (sic)," read the tweet.

The film, which has been helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, features Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal.

This will mark the second collaboration between Mehra and Akhtar after the superhit Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), which was based on the life of star athlete Milkha Singh.

Mehra said in a statement to news agency ANI, “After working with Farhan in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, I was certain he would be the perfect protagonist for Toofaan. The best thing about him is that he does not act the part, but lives it completely.”

He added, “Toofaan is a story that will motivate and inspire all of us to get out of comfort zones and fight for our dreams. We cannot wait to present our film to viewers across the globe.”

Ritesh Sidhwani, producer, Excel Entertainment, told ANI, "Excel Entertainment in association with ROMP Pictures is very thrilled to announce this special film. Our long-standing partnership with Amazon Prime Video has been brilliant and Toofaan is yet another exciting chapter and association for us on the global level.”
