Wanted my web debut to be special and Paap is one-of-a-kind, says Puja Banerjee

Actress Puja Banerjee made her web debut with the Hoichoi web-series Paap in 2019. The second season of the web-series, Paap: Antim Pawrbo (2021), was released on 4 June, two years after the first season was released.

Directed by Anupam Hari, the murder mystery series features Banerjee as the protagonist Parboni.

Known for her roles in the television serials Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna and Dev as well as in mainstream Bengali cinema with films like Macho Mastanaa (2012), Challenge 2 (2012) and Rocky (2013), Banerjee plays a mysterious character in the series which also stars Rahul Banerjee, Rajat Ganguly, Bhaswar Chattopadhyay and Saheb Bhattacharya.

Puja expressed her gratitude to the makers for choosing her for the character. “Mony-da [Mahendra Soni] from Shree Venkatesh Films wanted me to do the series," she said. "When I got the offer from him, I was already certain the show was going to be special. And then I heard the story and got quite excited to be a part of it.”

Puja wanted her first appearance on a digital platform to be special. “The series pretty much stands out as a special one," she said. "The first season was released two years ago and now the second season is out. People were eagerly waiting for it.”

As a fan of thrillers, Puja Banerjee regards Paap as a one-of-a-kind series. “When we were working on the first season," she recalled, "we had no clue whatsoever about the second season. However, now I like how the narrative is unfolding.”

In recent times, Puja has not been seen in many Bengali films. She feels the commercial film scenario in Bengal has changed a lot. However, with Paap’s success she has bagged a few web projects for which she will begin shooting after the lockdown is lifted.
