After Seeman, Tamil filmmaker Cheran calls for ban on The Family Man 2

The Bharathi Kannamma (1997) and Autograph (2004) director also claimed he has cancelled his Amazon Prime subscription.

Filmmaker Cheran on Monday took to Twitter to call for a ban on the second season of Amazon Prime's The Family Man. He said the show misrepresents the history behind the 'fight for the liberation of Tamils in Sri Lanka'.

Cheran, who has made popular Tamil films such as Bharathi Kannamma (1997) and Autograph (2004), also claimed he has cancelled his Amazon Prime subscription.

Cheran’s demand comes a few days after actor-politician Seeman sought a ban on the show for slandering Tamils and urged the Tamil Nadu government to intervene and stop the show from being streamed.

A rough translation of Cheran’s tweet reads, “I ignore the web-series which represents the history of the movement that fought for the liberation of the Tamil race. Stop this series immediately.”

He added that he would refrain from watching content on Amazon Prime until the show is no longer streamed.

The Raj & DK show stars Manoj Bajpayee while the second season sees Samantha Akkineni play a Sri Lankan Tamil rebel. The second season premiered on 4 June on Amazon Prime.

Ever since the release of the show, several netizens have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure.
