Prasad Oak to helm another historical film

Titled Bhadrakali, the project, which has been written by Digpal Lanjekar, is based on the life of Maratha army chief Umabai Dabhade.

Unsung historical figures continue to hold sway over contemporary Marathi filmmakers. After Sarsenapati Hambirrao and Chhatrapati Tararani, a film titled Bhadrakali is being developed on the life of the Maratha warrior Umabai Dabhade.

The film will be directed by Prasad Oak, who has already helmed a historical film, Hirkani (2019). The announcement was made on Instagram by the filmmaker who also shared the title teaser of the film.

Born in Nashik, Umabai Dabhade was married to Khanderao Dabhade who was the Maratha Senapati in Gujarat under Chhatrapati Shahu. After her husband's death, she challenged the mighty Peshwas.

Bhadrakali's story and screenplay have been written by Digpal Lanjekar, who has also directed two popular historical films — Farzand (2018) and Fatteshikast (2019).

The film's score will be composed by popular music director duo Ajay-Atul, which is interestingly also writing music for Oak's upcoming film Chandramukhi. Bhadrakali will be produced by Punit Balan Studios. The makers haven't announced the cast of the film yet.
