The Delhi high court dismissed a suit filed by actress Juhi Chawla and others against the Union government's rollout of 5G telecommunications in India as 'vexatious and defective'.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs20 lakh on the plaintiffs saying they had 'misused' the judicial process.

Justice JR Midha observed that Chawla and the other plaintiffs could have approached the government with their objections before filing a suit in court.

The trouble for Chawla's suit began when several intruders entered the court's online proceedings and started singing songs to the actress.

Chawla had shared a link to the court's live proceedings on her Instagram feed. The court castigated the actress for doing so and held the intruders in contempt and ordered the Delhi police to find the intruders and issue contempt show-cause notices against them.

According to the legal news website LiveLaw.in, the order stated, "The plaintiffs have abused and misused the process of the law. Plaintiffs are directed to deposit cost of Rs20 lakh within one week. DSLSA to utilise it for cause of victims of road accidents."

The order further said, "It appears plaintiffs have filed this suit for publicity, which is clear by plaintiff 1 sharing links of the hearing on social media, which led to multiple disruptions in the hearing."

The suit had been filed by Chawla and others to prevent the government rolling out 5G technology for telecommunication services in the country. They claim that the technology is harmful for humans, plants and the environment.
