Actor Sivakarthikeyan’s long-delayed Tamil thriller Doctor will skip theatres and be released directly on Disney+ Hotstar.

The film's makers had been eyeing a theatrical release since last year. However, this was not to be due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As per a report on the entertainment website LetsOTT, Disney+ Hotstar has acquired the rights to Doctor and it will be dubbed and released in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Doctor has been directed by Nelson, who rose to fame with the Nayanthara-starrer Kolamavu Kokila (2018). He has teamed up with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time for the project.

Tipped to be an action-comedy, the film marks the Tamil debut of Priyanka Mohan. “Half of the film will take place in Chennai and the other half will be set in Goa. The reason we titled it Doctor is that the film has elements that are related to doctors. Siva will sport a new look and has knocked off some kilos too,” Nelson was quoted as saying in a report in the Times of India newspaper.

Doctor, which has been jointly produced by KJR Studios and Sivakarthikeyan Productions, features music by Anirudh Ravichander.
