Vinil Mathew’s second feature Haseen Dillruba (2021) deals with themes such as love, jealousy, revenge and deception. In it, Taapsee Pannu plays Rani, an avid reader of Hindi crime novels, who finds herself in the middle of a plot straight out of the thrillers she reads.
Vikrant Massey plays her husband Rishu, while Harshvardhan Rane plays Neel, a man with whom Rani has a fling.
After working with Pannu and Massey for the first time, the director shared his observations on their working styles.
He said, “Tapsee and Vikrant are stellar performers with different approaches. Vikrant has a background in theatre, hence he improvises a lot, enjoys rehearsals and attempts multiple takes where he keeps refining and tweaking his performance till he hits the perfect note.”
“Taapsee, on the other hand, is a qualified engineer and perhaps that is why she has a methodical and precise approach to her preparation. She is extremely sharp and perceptive and maps her character layers and trajectory very early on. She then combines this with a lot of spontaneity and her first few takes are absolute gems,” he continued.
The director went on to say they understood their characters extremely well and made an amazing team.
The Netflix thriller is due to be released on 2 July on the global streaming platform.
