Mohanagar trailer: A stark critique of a corrupt system

Directed by Ashfaque Nipun, the eight-episode crime drama stars Mosharraf Karim.

Mosharraf Karim’s line from the trailer of Hoichoi's upcoming series Mohanagar about the system being ridden with ghosts makes it apparent that the series will strongly critique corrupt social systems. The characters and their meaningful dialogues in the trailer point to director Ashfaque Nipun's clarity of vision while conceiving the eight-episode series, which deals with politics, crime and justice.

Karim plays a corrupt policeman, OC Harun, in the series, which also features Shamol Mawla, Zakia Bari Mamo, Mostafizur Noor Imran and Khairul Bashar in crucial roles. Harun is known for taking the law into his own hands.

On an eventful night, Afnan Chowdhury (Mawla), the son of an eminent industrialist, is charged with murder and is advised to seek the help of Harun. While Chowdhury considers the death an accident, things don't look good for him. Harun, meanwhile, warns Chowdhury to not hide anything from him as he is can see through any kind of deception.

While Harun tries to fabricate a crime in the Dhaka police station, junior inspector Moloy Kumar (Imran) attempts to rid the system of 'ghosts'. Amid this, the eyewitnesses to the death are building pressure on the prosecutors.

The trailer is replete with visuals that hint at the complexity of the characters. It also promises powerful performances by the ensemble cast. The trailer generates a lot of anticipation as Nipun’s storytelling appears to be deeply rooted in reality.

Mohanagar will be streamed on Hoichoi from 25 June.
