A Google search suggests the meaning of the word ‘chutzpah’ is ‘extreme self-confidence’ or ‘audacity’. The word was popularized a few years ago on social media by Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider (2014), an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

SonyLIV’s new web-series is called Chutzpah and, going by the teaser for the show, it is based on the rise of social media and their adverse effects.

The web-series stars Varun Sharma, Manjot Singh, Gautam Mehra, Tanya Maniktala, Elnaaz Norouzi and Kshitij Chauhan.

But the teaser mostly shows graphics of common people as statues deeply involved in social media. The visuals are appealing and show how people ignore the real world around them as they get immersed in the virtual world of likes and shares.

The artistes named above then make a fleeting appearance. All of them are seated in front of their laptops, doing a video chat.

SonyLIV has built a reputation for shows with rich content. The teaser for Chutzpah promises another quirky thriller from the platform.

Written by Amit Babbar and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the show has been produced under Dinesh Vijan’s banner Maddock Outsider. Lamba is also the creator while Simarpreet Singh has directed it. Lamba, Varun Sharma and Manjot Singh were all part of the Fukrey films.

Chutzpah is expected to be streamed soon. Watch the teaser below and tell us if you are keen to see this show.
