Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar has launched the Yash Johar Foundation in memory of his late father, a film producer of note.

The main aim of the initiative is to implement sustainable plans that will enhance the lives of people working in the film industry and their families and to provide immediate solutions to help them deal with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In a video shared by Johar, the filmmaker spoke about the passion his father had towards movies and how much he loved being on the sets. “But his heart lay in the people who made up the industry — from the spot boys to the cameramen, the editors to the actors. They made up his world. He was naturally a kind and empathetic person, who understood that being in the movie business was hard, which is why it gives me great pleasure to announce the formation of the Yash Johar Foundation for the people of the entertainment industry,” he said.

Shedding light on the initiative, he added, “The Yash Johar Foundation has three main pillars that it will support — financial well-being, health and education and vocational training. Considering the current scenario and taking into account the effects and after-effects of COVID-19, we have initiated YJF COVID Response 2021 to address immediate needs such as food, shelter and medicines of those within the entertainment industry, who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.”

Johar added, “My father was a man who always looked for solutions and always taught me to look for them too. This is a step in that direction.”

On the work front, Johar’s next film is the keenly-awaited Brahmastra.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt.
