Leena Manimekalai's Maadathy to be streamed on Neestream from 24 June, Parvathy Thiruvothu shares motion poster


The film is a coming-of-age story about an adolescent girl from an oppressed caste in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Parvathy Thiruvothu launched the motion poster of director Leena Manimekalai’s feature film Maadathy. The film, a coming-of-age story about an adolescent girl from the oppressed Puthirai Vannar community in Tamil Nadu, will be streamed on the Malayalam over-the-top (OTT) platform Neestream from 24 June. 

Sharing the film’s motion poster, Parvathy wrote, “Presenting the official motion poster of Maadathy: An Unfairy Tale directed by Leena Manimekalai. Congratulations to the cast and crew for such a powerful film.” 

The film, which stars Ajmina Kassim, Patrick Raj, Semmalar Annam and Arul Kumar, features actors from the Puthirai Vannar community.

The film touches upon themes such as gender, caste identity, religious beliefs and violence.

Maadathy was screened at Busan International Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival and Latin American FICCI 60 among other such events and bagged awards such as the FIPRESCI Jury Award, Golden Kailasha for Best Film, Best Actress and Best Cinematography Awards at Aurangabad International Film Festival, 2020. 

Leena has co-written as well as produced Maadathy under the Karuvachy Films banner.  The project was initially crowdfunded but, in the post-production stage, Piiyush Singh-Golden Ratio Films, Bhavana Goparaju and Abinandhan Ramanujam joined as co-producers.
