Farhan Akhtar-led Toofaan set for release on 16 July

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film also features Mrunal Thakur in the lead.

Toofaan, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's boxing saga featuring Farhan Akhtar, will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 16 July.

The film's release had been delayed at the beginning of the second COVID-19 wave in India in March this year, with the makers announcing that they would wait 'until the situation improves'.

The film's leading man, Farhan Akhtar, shared posters announcing the new release date. 'With humility, love and in dedication to the fighting spirit of the beautiful people of our nation, our film ‘Toofaan’ will be releasing on July 16th,' the actor-filmmaker wrote.

The film has been postponed twice since it was announced. The film was first scheduled for a theatrical release on 2 October 2020. However, that plan had to be put on hold after the COVID-19 pandemic in India led to an indefinite shutdown of theatres.

In 2021, the makers announced a new direct-to-digital release on 21 May. The arrival of the second wave of the pandemic ensured that the makers had to postpone it yet again.

Toofaan features Farhan Akhtar as a gangster who turns to boxing for redemption. Akhtar plays Aziz Ali aka Ajju who is nicknamed 'Toofaan' for his speed. The film has been written by Anjum Rajabali and also features Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in key roles.

Toofaan is produced jointly by Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's ROMP Pictures.
