The Bombay high court has directed Kangana Ranaut's plea to include the Passport Authority of India as a party to her recent plea, while also pointing out that her 'application is vague'.

Ranaut moved the court after the authorities objected to renewing her passport on the grounds that a case had been filed against the actress for inciting hatred via Twitter.

The bench of Justices PB Varale and SP Tavade heard the actress' plea seeking directions for renewal of her passport in order to commence her shooting schedule abroad. In her application, the actress had stated, "There are huge monetary investments made by production houses in booking such shooting locations, wherein the applicant is required to participate as an actress (sic)."

However, the bench noted that the actress had submitted oral observations and not a written rejection. Legal website, LiveLaw.in, quoted the bench as observing, "Which is the competent authority who refused you? You are seeking directions against the Passport Authority without making them a party? This is all oral. Renewal of the passport is the business of Passport Authority, not a PSI of a police station to whom an application was made, and you have approached the court against it."

The bench also noted that Ranaut's sister, Rangoli Chandel, had unnecessarily been made a party to the plaint since she had no commitments abroad.

Ranaut's lawyer, Rizwan Sidiquee, had submitted that the actress's application for renewal had been rejected orally, due to the existence of FIRs against her.

The bench allowed Ranaut's counsel to amend the application and submit it. The hearing has been adjourned to 25 June.
