The trailer for Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s upcoming web-series Ladies & Gentlemen promises a narrative that explores in depth the themes of gender inequality and the culture of misogyny that thrives in patriarchal systems.

Featuring Maria Nur, Pavel Areen, Tanvir Hossain, Mamunur Rashid, Tasnia Farin, Hasan Masood, Partha Barua, Alexey Kosorukov, and Iresh Zaker, the web-series also seems to bat for building a society with equal opportunities for all.

From the visuals, Ladies & Gentlemen appears to focus on the workspaces of Bangladesh, where employees are under the scrutiny of the authorities. When it comes to female employees, the struggle for survival gets more complex as they continuously have to deal with societal perceptions and balance their work and life with dignity.

The trailer has a sombre tone and the background score suggests that Farooki’s storytelling is grounded in reality. The narrative, which highlights issues such as rape culture as well as the effects of patriarchy, also seems to be multi-layered.

Ladies & Gentlemen will be streamed on Zee5 from 9 July.
