Actress Puja Banerjee, who made her name with the television serial Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna and, later, Bengali films like Macho Mastanaa (2012), Challenge 2 (2012) and Rocky (2013), made her web debut with the Hoichoi series Paap in 2019. Paap: Antim Pawrbo, the second season of the web-series directed by Anupam Hari, was released on 4 June.
Banerjee plays the lead character Parboni, a mysterious woman who makes an appearance in the Choudhury household as an uninvited guest during Durga Puja. Two murders take place and all the family members become suspicious about Parboni, as she seems to hold some secrets about the family.
Rahul Banerjee, Bhaswar Chatterjee, Rajat Ganguly and Saheb Bhattacharya also play pivotal roles in the web-series.
According to Puja, Parboni is unlike any other character she has played until now. “She is a mysterious woman. She doesn’t reveal who she is and always maintains an uncertainty about her,” the actress said. “Portraying her was a different experience as there is always a thin line of overdoing it. I had to give a restrained act to make the character's innocence convincing.”
A fan of thrillers herself, Puja loves how the character has unfolded across two seasons. According to her, while shooting for the first season, the team had no clue about the second.
“Our director helped me a lot in etching out the character,” she said. “In the first season, we had to establish the character and it was very important for us to hit the right chord. I think we succeeded in doing that.”
The actress used to always have discussions even before shooting a montage. “I cannot personally relate to such a character; hence, the discussions were very important for me,” she explained.
Puja Banerjee has come a long way since Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna. "Every project has been different," she said. "I have been part of reality shows, mythological dramas, family dramas and thriller television series such as Dev (2017). People have different kinds of images about me in their minds and I am glad to have been able to do justice to each of my roles."
Paap: Antim Pawrbo is currently being streamed on Hoichoi.
