Nyay: The Justice trailer – Seedy undertaking makes a mockery of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death

The distasteful film features Zuber Khan as actor Mahendra Singh and Shreya Shukla as his wicked girlfriend Urvashi.

The trailer for writer-director Dilip Gulati’s Nyay: The Justice has ‘B-grade’ written all over it. But dodgy production values are not the worst thing about the film. The promo gives more than a hint that the endeavour makes a mockery of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the circus that it spawned.

The protagonist is a star called Mahendra Singh, a nod to Rajput’s character in MS Dhoni (2016). The country comes to a standstill when he apparently hangs himself from a ceiling fan, a scenario ripped from the headlines, with the makers even going to the pain of getting the colour of the cloth used right.

The trailer also expectedly vilifies Rhea Chakraborty through Mahendra Singh's girlfriend Urvashi (Shreya Shukla). The character apparently fakes affection to swindle the actor. She also sings a line in Bengali in an atrocious song, leaving no doubt as to whom the character is based on.

But there’s more. Urvashi is shown wearing a yellow salwar-kameez in a police interrogation scene. This is exactly what Chakraborty wore when she was questioned by the authorities last year. And, naturally, there is a drug angle as well.

The trailer makes it amply clear that in the name of paying tribute to the late actor, the makers are attempting to cash in on the controversy surrounding his death. But what is surprising is the involvement of veteran artistes such as Asrani, Shakti Kapoor and Kiran Kumar, all of whom play pivotal roles.

Nyay: The Justice will be released in theatres later this year. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
