Screenwriters Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon are coming together for the first time for Aanand L Rai’s Rakshabandhan which stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar.
Sharma, who has won the National award for Best Dialogue for Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2016), has worked with Rai since the filmmaker’s debut film Strangers (2007). Dhillon is known for writing the screenplays of Manmarziyaan (2018), Kedarnath (2018), Judgementall Hai Kya (2019) and Guilty (2020). The couple wed earlier this year in a low-key ceremony.
Speaking about the project, Sharma said, "This is the first time that I'm co-writing a script and I'm fortunate to collaborate with a talent like Kanika, who has got such a distinct voice. She has such a varied body of work which I've always admired and I hope we do our best in Rakshabandhan.”
Dhillon, who has also written the upcoming Netflix film Haseen Dillruba (2021), was equally excited about the collaboration and stated, “Rakshabandhan is a very special story and for the first time I have collaborated with Himanshu Sharma — who is known for changing the landscape of Hindi films! Of course, I was nervous and excited to work with this gigantic talent in Rakshabandhan. We hope we will be able to tell a story that makes its way into the hearts of every brother and sister!"
Rakshabandhan is being presented by Akshay Kumar's sister, Alka Bhatia and Rai. The film was announced last year on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The film’s release date is yet to be announced.
