The Films Division of the Union information and broadcasting ministry has announced its latest film festival, Masters’ Constellation, featuring a series of documentaries on renowned filmmakers from India.
Part I of the festival will see 12 documentaries being streamed on the Films Division website and YouTube channel starting today and going on till Sunday 11 July.
Masters’ Constellation will begin with a tribute to the Father of Indian Cinema, Dadasahab Phalke, with A Dream Takes Wings by the late actor-filmmaker Gajanan Jagirdar, a biopic of the filmmaker and his vision which laid the foundations for the film industry in India.
Other films in the festival line-up include film historian BD Garga’s Creative Artists Of India: Satyajit Ray, which is one of the early documentaries on Ray in which the filmmaker discusses his filmmaking process, and Shaji N Karun’s film on G Aravindan, an exploration of the filmmaker known for his experimental storytelling style and unorthodox way of filmmaking.
BR Chopra: Milestones In Celluloid by Vinay Vairale highlights the career milestones and achievements of Chopra from the beginning of his career as a film journalist to its culmination as the winner of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee by UB Mathur; Sandip Roy’s The King Of Middle Cinema, a life sketch of Tapan Sinha; V Shantaram: The Pioneering Spirit by Sanjit Narwekar; Mrinal Sen: Self And Cinema by Nripen Ganguli; Images/Reflections: A Journey Into The Images Of Adoor Gopalakrishnan by Girish Kasaravalli; and Iyakunar Sigaram K Balachander by Manohar Singh Bisht are some of the other films in the programme.
